Paint protection film (PPF, also called clear bra, clear film or clear paint film) is a thermoplastic urethane often self-healing film applied to painted surfaces of a new or used car in order to protect the paint from stone chips, bug splatters, and minor abrasions. This film is also used on airplanes, RVs, cell phones, electronics, screens, motorcycles and many other areas. Paint protection film is OEM approved by virtually all car manufacturers.
Paint protection film is installed on a limited basis by manufacturers on various pieces of cars at the factory (e.g. the rear arches of Porsches). This film is most commonly applied to high impact areas of vehicles which include: the hood, the front fenders, the front bumper, the side view mirrors, the rocker panels, the lower portion of the doors, and the rear guards behind the rear wheels. This is because these specific panels are the most susceptible to damage from rock chips and other forms of road debris from other vehicles, driving near construction, and even through self-inflicted damage—which is caused by simply driving due to the fact that debris is inevitably is kicked up from the tires rotating. The film is generally installed by certified trained professionals who receive supplies from outside distributors and dealers.
Paint protection film is made of thermoplastic polyurethane Elastomer, which refers to a class of polymer materials with properties that are similar to thermosetting rubber and the processing technology is similar to plastics. There are plastic segments (hard segments, HB) and elastic chain breaks (soft segments, SB) in the TPE molecular structure.). Because the hard segment and the soft segment are mechanically incompatible or incompletely compatible, TPE has both thermoplastic and elasticity. TP will show the elasticity of rubber at room temperature or low temperature, and it can be plasticized and formed at high temperature. TPE, it has an interactive cross-linked network structure. This kind of cross-linking is mainly based on physical cross-linking. It can be processed and formed without vulcanization. III. Development of paint protection film
- Generation 1-PVC/polyvinyl chloride

PVC is definitely not the best material for car paint protection material, as it turns into yellowish color and it will crack in cold weathers, leaving glue on surface or almost impossible to peel off.

IV. Precautions after installation
Precautions After Install PPF
- Do not get in heavy rain at the same day of install.
- Do not drive over on highway in 5-7 days to prevent possible peeling off at edges.
- Do not use a high-pressure washing, especially for the corners and edges.
- Clean debris, dust, tree leaf’s, seeds, birds remain in time.
- water mist will disappear in about 5-7 days.
- Avoid excessive stretching during construction.
